Published on August 22, 2025
Ozarka College is honored to announce the establishment of the Tony Stewart Memorial Scholarship. This endowed scholarship will provide lasting support for students as they pursue their education and work toward their goals. Each year, the Tony Stewart Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student from Izard County.
"It is a privilege to announce the creation of the Tony Stewart Memorial Scholarship, " said April Killian, Ozarka College director of development. "This scholarship was created to change lives by helping students learn a skill that will enable them to build a strong future for themselves and their families. We are thankful that Tony's legacy will continue to inspire and make a difference for generations to come through this enduring tribute. "
The Tony Stewart Memorial Scholarship at Ozarka College was created to honor the life of a man who consistently went above and beyond for those he cared about. This scholarship continues his legacy of giving back by supporting students in pursuit of their goals. Tony took immense pride in his stepdaughters, who earned nursing and welding degrees through Ozarka, and he was one of their greatest supporters throughout their journeys. Through this scholarship, his spirit of encouragement and dedication will live on, helping future students achieve their dreams.
We are grateful for this opportunity, made possible by local businesses and community members through the annual Melbourne golf tournament, " said Ashton Smith. "We live in an amazing community, and we're proud that this scholarship reflects it by supporting Ozarka College students. "
Tony's love for golf at Cooper's Hawk Golf Course inspired the creation of the Tony Stewart Memorial Golf Tournament, which funded this scholarship. A 1967 graduate of Highland High School, Tony attended ASU Beebe and ASU Jonesboro before spending 35 years with Shelter Insurance, retiring as a district manager. In retirement, he launched several successful businesses, enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with friends, and showcased his exceptional skills as a pool player.
