Surgical Technology Program Director

Ozarka College seeks applicants for a full-time Surgical Technology Program Director.  The Surgical Technology Program Director, acting under the direction of the Provost and the Division Chair of Allied Health, ensures excellence in teaching and learning by providing high quality, relevant, and valued instruction in their assigned field of study.  The program director is responsible for all aspects of the program, including the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, general effectiveness of the program, a minimum of 15-hours teaching load per semester, and other duties as assigned. 

Position Specific:

• Obtain and maintain program accreditation.
• Participate in an ARC/STSA sponsored Accreditation Fundamentals for Educators workshop within one year of the appointment starting and continue attending workshops at least once every five years.
• Pursue other formal training designed to maintain and upgrade professional, instructional, and administrative capacities.
• Coordinate, plan, review, and evaluate all facets of classroom and clinical education including creating and delivering curriculum to meet requirements of program accreditation.
• Develop and implement policies related to admission, retention, and progression of students.
• Maintain documentation as required by accreditation, program, or clinical facilities; prepare reports for internal and external purposes, and carry on correspondence related to the program.
• Participate in the budgeting and procurement process.
• Collaborate with the Allied Health Division Chair to initiate and maintain clinical affiliation agreements.
• Conduct annual program advisory committee meetings and collaborate to assess the needs of the community and utilize the committee to validate and/or improve program effectiveness.
• Have computer skills and technological skills to teach and prepare lectures
• Encourage students to participate in professional organizations to enhance their learning
• Provide leadership, direction and oversight to all assigned course offerings within the surgical technology program.
• Work effectively with colleagues for continued growth and quality of curriculum.
• Effectively advise and register Ozarka College students.
• Serve on Ozarka College committees as assigned to assist in providing programs and services that develop and enhance students as members of the college community
• Perform all duties and responsibilities of an Ozarka College faculty member as outlined in a timely and effective manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
• Have a minimum total of five years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten years.
• Possess an Associate’s Degree or greater.
• Possess and demonstrate proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, and program planning. Finalists will be required to demonstrate competence through a teaching demonstration.
• Knowledge of accreditation standards and guidelines for surgical technologist academic programming.
• Demonstrate the ability to ensure continued growth of program.
• Demonstrate effective positive reinforcement to the students learning experience.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills, both oral and written.
• Demonstrated commitment to learning.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field and Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology.
