Director of TRIO Student Support Services

Ozarka College invites applications for the position of Director of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS). The position is a 12-month, full time, grant-funded position.  Under the direction of the Vice President of Student Services, the TRIO Director will provide support to all areas of the TRIO Department including administrative duties of the project related to project design, personnel, and institutional collaboration.  The Director of TRIO is responsible for the supervision and evaluation process of all support staff within the department.  

Ozarka College is located in scenic Northcentral Arkansas and serves Izard, Stone, Sharp, and Fulton counties, where residents enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, as well as the benefits of the tranquility that the rural setting affords. Education at Ozarka is on the cutting edge, with traditional day and evening classes available at the main campus in Melbourne and locations in Ash Flat, Mammoth Spring and Mountain View to serve its service area of Fulton, Izard, Sharp and Stone counties. The College also offers a wide range of online classes that provides flexibility in scheduling for students with busy work and family schedules.  

Position Specific:

  • Prepare and submit all necessary U. S. Department of Education reports;
  • Design and direct program activities throughout each grant year;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with Financial Aid, Admissions and Counseling Offices;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with other area TRIO programs and community service agencies;
  • Represent the project at all appropriate meetings on and off campus;
  • Establish policies and procedures for managing program activities, participant assessment and program evaluation;
  • Establish, evaluate and revise information management and reporting systems;
  • Recruit, recommend for hire, train, supervise, and evaluate project staff;
  • Develop and manage project budget;
  • Coordinate and assist in providing workshops and tutor training sessions for participants and peer tutors;
  • Develop and coordinate participant, staff and project evaluations;
  • Develop methods to document participant success and attainment of project activities;
  • Research and develop funding proposal;
  • Attend national, regional and state educational and professional conferences.

College Wide:

  • Participate in faculty development in order to provide information about TRIO SSS and the services it offers;
  • Participate in any committees or groups which may affect or impact TRIO SSS participants;
  • Cooperate with all college departments to provide and share information regarding the program and the program participants.
  • Participate in all student services activities as a representative of TRIO SSS.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a master’s degree, preferably in the area of counseling, social work, education, college student personnel, or related field AND two years of experience as a teacher, counselor, or administrator working with economically and educationally disadvantaged students;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic, economic, social and cultural needs of disadvantaged persons and of programmatic methods effective in overcoming those needs;
  • Experience in managing federal grants;
  • Supervisory skills that include excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Background similar to that of TRIO Student Support Services participants.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the responsibilities and skill required to fulfill the position responsibilities;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the use of a computer as it relates to specific position requirements;
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Demonstrated commitment to learning;
  • Demonstrated commitment to the community college philosophy;
  • Demonstrated commitment to assisting students and faculty;
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and team building skills;
  • Demonstrated effective organization skills;
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
