Miniature Therapy Horse visits Mammoth Spring LPN Students

Published on May 4, 2018

The Ozarka licensed practical nursing students at Mammoth Spring were happy to host Baybe, a miniature therapy horse, on April 25, 2018.  Baybe belongs to Jenny Kiest of Mini Blessings Farms in Thomasville, MO.

"Who knew that autistic children would connect with Baybe so easily, or that our veterans with PTSD were blessed with therapy horses donated by Jenny that make their lives easier? " asked Cheryl Denbow, Ozarka College LPN Instructor. "Shy children are happy to read to Baybe when they won't read in front of others and geriatric patients love and  respond to Baybe (and other animals Jenny provides as well) whether they are walking with her as support, grooming her or sneaking her treats. "

These are just a few of the things that the rescue horses Jenny takes in and trains for therapy are able to do, and the students enjoyed learning about this form of therapy.  Jenny travels to the VA facilities in Missouri, Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, Tennessee Children's Hospital, nursing homes in Willow Springs, Thayer, Springfield and West Plains.  She also visits preschools and schools on a regular basis.
