Roddenberry Named Academic All-Star

Published on September 8, 2020

Ozarka College has selected Ashlyn Roddenberry of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas as recipient of the Academic All-Star scholarship program. Upon completion of her Associate of Arts in General Education at Ozarka, Roddenberry plans to attend the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in the fall of 2021.

The purpose of this program is to recognize the scholarly and service achievements of Arkansas' two-year college students. Academic All-Stars will be recognized in October virtually at the Arkansas Community Colleges Annual Awards event that takes place in Little Rock, Arkansas.   Each two-year college will provide the All-Star with a $500 scholarship to complete his/her final semester at the two-year college. Traditionally, All-Star recipients also receive a full tuition scholarship from an Arkansas college or university of their choice to complete their four-year degree.

To be eligible, All-Star candidates are required to meet eligibility requirements such as being an Arkansas resident, enrolled in a public two-year college, expected to continue enrollment through at least Fall 2020, have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours toward their associate's degree and have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 or higher.   Roddenberry, who has a 3.93 GPA, meets or exceeds all scholarship requirements. Applicants were also required to demonstrate involvement in campus and community activities. Roddenberry is a student Ambassador for Ozarka and has served her college through a variety of volunteer work including serving food for the 2020 Ladies' Luncheon.

"Ashlyn is a gifted scholar and exceptional student leader who takes pride in being active at the College and in her local community," said Jason Lawrence, Ozarka College Vice President of Student Services. "We are very proud of Ashlyn's achievements and her commitment to serving others; and we expect only continued success as she transfers to UAMS to pursue a degree in Dental Hygiene."
