Health Information Technology Instructor

Ozarka College seeks applicants for a full time Health Information Technology Instructor to begin the fall semester 2016. The position is a 9-month full time faculty position requiring 15 credit hours of instruction per semester with opportunities for additional course assignments


This faculty position, acting under the supervision of the Allied Health Division Chair, ensures excellence in teaching and learning by providing high quality, relevant, and valued instruction in their assigned field of study. Instructional areas include:  Health Information Technology, Medical Coding, Transcription, Terminology, Ethics and the Practicum to name a few.


Ozarka College is located in scenic Northcentral Arkansas and serves Izard, Stone, Sharp, and Fulton counties, where residents enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, as well as the benefits of the tranquility that the rural setting affords. Education at Ozarka is on the cutting edge, with traditional day and evening classes available at the main campus in Melbourne and locations in Ash Flat, Mammoth Spring and Mountain View to serve its service area of Fulton, Izard, Sharp and Stone counties. The College also offers a wide range of online classes that provides flexibility in scheduling for students with busy work and family schedules.


Position-Specific Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate the HIT program
  • Continue the ongoing process of CAHIIM Accreditation
  • Maintain a teaching load 15 credit hours per semester
  • Become familiar with Software for Electronic Medical Records, Coding, and Transcription
  • Develop teaching resources, syllabi, related activities and provide instruction for assigned  college-level courses, and other courses as necessary
  • Encourage students to participate in professional organizations to enhance their learning
  • Provide input on budgetary needs to the Division Chair
  • Maintain professionalism within the program and serve as a role model to the students
  • Obtain and coordinate clinical or internship sites for students when applicable
  • Provide leadership, direction and oversight to all assigned course offerings.
  • Work effectively with the Allied Health Division Chair and the Associate Vice President of Academics to develop, enhance, and promote curriculum and programs
  • Work effectively with colleagues for continued growth and quality of  curriculum
  • Effectively advise and register Ozarka College students
  • Serve on Ozarka College committees as assigned to assist in providing programs and services that develop and enhance students as members of the college community
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities of an Ozarka College faculty member as outlined in a timely and effective manner.

Minimum Qualification:


  • Must be certified as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) 
  • Baccalaureate degree in Health Information Technology or Health Information Management

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with CAHIIM Accreditation
  • Higher education teaching experience
