Director of Career Services

Ozarka College in Melbourne is seeking qualified applicants for a Director of Career Services. The Director of Career Services, acting under the direction of the Vice President of Student Services, will provide support to students in the form of Career Planning activities and provide leadership in developing Ozarka College career services. The Director of Career Services is a twelve-month grant-funded position.


The successful candidate should be focused on student success, able to develop trust with students, understand barriers which affect college student success, able to work with others in a team setting as well as independently, and have a strong work ethic.


Position Specific Responsibilities


  • Research and make recommendations to faculty for new nationally normed technical skill assessment measures that will enhance employability of Ozarka students.
  • Assist in implementation of new assessments as needed.
  • Promote pursuit of industry certifications to students
  • Enter and track all technical skill assessment results into Sonis.
  • Provide input for technical program improvement. 
  • Assist students with career planning through career assessments, interest inventories, and related career development activities. Identify students who fit the following special CTE/Perkins populations in order to build relationships and offer support:  (1) students who are a non-traditional gender for their programs, (2) single-parents, (3) students with disabilities, (4) displaced homemakers, and (4) ESL. Conduct intrusive advising, career exploration, and progress report meetings with CTE students who are on financial aid probation.
  • Attend regular career development training as well as conferences, including some weekend and overnight travel.  
  • Provide leadership, research, development and implementation of retention efforts for Ozarka College with the following focus.   1. Best Practices in Technical Skill Development and Assessment.  2.Best Practices in Career Exploration/Career Counseling/Job Seeking and Placement.
  • Be knowledgeable of all Ozarka student requirements and services, referring students as needed.  
  • Be knowledgeable of employment services and resources in Ozarka College service area.
  • Contact and follow-up with students by phone, email, and appointment to discuss goals, career plans, degree completion, and available support services.  
  • Maintain accurate student records and notes in My Ozarka and SONIS and follow FERPA requirements with regards to student records.  
  • Follow up with early alerts on assigned advisees.
  • Create and distribute mail-outs, fliers, and newsletters related to career exploration, industry assessments, career readiness, and employment skills.
  • Develop and present workshops to faculty, staff, and students on career development and success related topics.    
  • Serve as Perkins Coordinator.
  • Complete other duties related to the position as assigned.  

Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree in related field is required, Master’s strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing grant programs, objectives, and budgets.
  • Requires a person who is independent, creative, and self-paced.
  • Requires the ability to work cohesively with academic leadership, faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Requires the ability to multi-task.
  • Requires proficient computer and phone etiquette skills.
  • Requires working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Requires refined interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with college students.
  • Experience supervising a team preferred.
