Aviation Instructor

Ozarka College seeks applicants for a full-time Instructor of Aviation.  The position is a 9-month to a 12-month full-time faculty position requiring both flight instruction and classroom teaching with opportunities for additional course assignments.


The successful applicant will be expected to provide instruction in a full range of freshman and sophomore courses including, but not limited to: Fundamentals of Aeronautics I, Fundamentals of Aeronautics II, Introduction to Aeronautics Lab, Private Pilot Lab, Private Pilot Certification, Air Traffic Control, and Aviation Weather. This position will mainly be a teaching assignment at the Melbourne Municipal Airport and Melbourne site, and could include the Ash Flat, Mammoth Spring, and Mountain View sites, as well as day, evening, and online classes. Other duties include: participation in departmental activities, institutional committee assignment, advising, assessment, and appropriate professional development activities relevant for the position.


Required Qualifications:


  • Associate's Degree in Aviation, or a related field
  • Interest and commitment to undergraduate education
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively with college committees, campus organizations, and other educational institutions and to be involved in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities
  • Able to design goals and assess learning outcomes
  • A current U.S. FAA Commercial Pilot certificate with Airplane category, Single-Engine Land class, and Instrument Airplane ratings; a current U.S. FAA Flight Instructor certificate with Airplane category and Single-Engine class ratings; and a current U.S. FAA 2nd Class medical certificate

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Aviation, or a related field
  • Proven experience with and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of working, commuting, and other non-traditional community college students
  • Experience with 14 CFR Part 141 flight school requirements
  • Two or more years of experience teaching in Higher Education
  • Meet the requirements for Assistant Chief Instructor of a Private Pilot Course per 14 CFR § 141.36, including:


  1. At least 500 hours as pilot in command; and
  2. Flight training experience, acquired as either a certificated flight instructor or an instructor in a military pilot flight training program, or a combination thereof, consisting of at least—

             a)1 year and a total of 250 flight hours; or


             b)500 flight hours.
