SCCRC Donates Another $10,000 to Ozarka College

Published on October 10, 2014

For the past several years, Ozarka College has had the privilege of meeting with volunteers who serve on the Stone County Community Resource Council (SCCRC).   What they do to serve their community and to better the lives of others is simply remarkable.   While selling $2.00 bags of donated items, they have managed to raise and donate another $10,000 for Ozarka College scholarships.   These 25-cent items, when purchased individually at the Dorcas House thrift store, have brought their total donations to Ozarka College to an impressive $110,000!

While reading this, you may be thinking to yourself, "Isn't this old news? Didn't they just make the headlines for a $10,000 donation? To answer that, yes, but this is more of a history repeating itself scenario, than it is old news.

The SCCRC donated $10,000 on March 14, 2014, bringing their total contributions to a milestone amount of $100,000.   Just under six months later, the SCCRC presented Ozarka College with another $10,000 check on August 25, 2014.

The SCCRC is a nonprofit corporation operated by volunteers, some who have been volunteering for more than 30 years.   "I love working here and will until I take my last breath, said long time volunteer, Doris Riddick.   "I've had parents tell me that their kids didn't want to go to school, because they were embarrassed by the clothes they had to wear.   But when they started shopping at the Dorcas House, their kids were proud to wear their new clothes and looked forward to going to school again.

Since the SCCRC is a nonprofit organization, charitable donations are tax deductible.   Donations can be dropped off at the Dorcas House, located on School Street in Mountain View, Arkansas.

The monetary contributions that the SCCRC has made to Ozarka College only begins to touch the surface of the lives they are changing.   Of the $110,000 donated, $90,000 has been designated for scholarships and $20,000 for College improvements.

The $90,000 in scholarship donations from SCCRC has been awarded to students in $500 increments.   By doing this, countless students have been, and will continue to be assisted by these extremely generous donations.   The SCCRC is committed to investing in the future of the lives of their scholarship recipients.

"Higher education is one of the most important investments that people make, said Mark Schneider, author of In Higher Education Pays: But a Lot More for Some Graduates.   "And most students make this investment because they want a better chance to land a good career and higher earnings.

According to the 2014 Arkansas Research Center in Partnership with Hanover Research, the average wages earned by someone with less than a High School diploma was $9,246. Employees with a Technical Certificate or Associate Degree earned, on average, more than $26,000 yearly.

To conclude, the Stone County Community Resource Council hasn't just donated an incredible total of $110,000 to Ozarka College.   They have positively impacted the lives of area students who want a brighter future.   They have assisted area business owners with having educated employees.   Last but certainly not least, the SCCRC has bettered the community as a whole; and for that, we are grateful.   We are grateful for the enrichments they are providing and for the partnership we share with them.
